A poster series about the historical music period I did for my Music appreciation class. I’m really pleased that a] I finished it! and b] that I like what I’ve done. The line lines up and all my building look nice and I’m just happy with it. I hope you guys like them too!

Ahh, the modern design is wonderful, the explanations are very informative by the way, thanks for making it! The words are hard to see even when you click the photoset, these are the full sized images for better readability: [1] The Middle Ages, [2] The Renaissance, [3] The Baroque Period, [4] The Classical Period, [5] The Romantic Period, [6] Twentieth Century

“Little Bird” by Alex Cherry (`vhm-alex)

I look up to the little bird
That glides across the sky
He sings the clearest melody
It makes me want to cry

I walk along the city streets
So dark with rage and fear
I wish that I could be that little bird
And fly away from here

But Mama, I feel so low
But Mama, where do I go?

They always said that you knew best
So I’ve just got to put these wings to test

Tutorial: Using Windows VSTs on a Mac →

It’s a nice tutorial and reference on how to get a windows VST to work in Mac (which I didn’t know was possible), I’ve yet to try myself to see if this method works. It also seems to take quite a bit of time to set up, but this would be a very useful tool if you prefer Macs as a primary OS. =) This is the direct tut link.

The Contemplation (Journal: #7)

Genre: “Game Music” / Electronic

22 SoundsPlucked - Harp, Koto; Mallets - Bells, Marimba, Steam Pipe, Clicks; Drum Kit (13); StringsSynthesizers (3)

Learned / Notes: This is a pretty catchy sorta epic tune that would be quite fitting in a game’s soundtrack. Admittedly, I didn’t think I would accomplish much today since I was not feeling all too well at first. Then I thought: “Wait a second, THAT’SNOTOKAY.jpg” and proceeded to sit down and make this — I like how it turned out. I feel like I’ve unlocked some sort of level achievement since I made my own gated synthesizer from scratch for the first time.

The Typewriter — Practice: #6

(Lyrics)

Genre: Experimental

Sounds: Samples of Amelia Earhart, Thomas Edison, a typewriter, and a famous 1945 radio broadcast of Japan’s Surrender in WW2 are featured in this file. (Credits) I also used my vocals, strings, and experimental rhythm sounds.

Learned: I really liked the idea of making something “vinyl” sounding and followed some tutorials to add crackles and noise to it. I even considered reading off famous love letters to make it more dramatic. :D Unfortunately, I lost the motivation halfway through after almost losing my computer so I had to wrap it up quickly. The vocals are were not recorded with my usual normal studio microphones, though it is processed with chorus & flanger effects. Overall, making this was a very positive experience — I learned about early sound production.

I’m always suspect of answers given by reps of companies like Spotify. Streaming services are the new music industry, complete with shitty payouts to artists. Rdio’s new affiliate program looks like an interesting solution for artists though… Grooveshark may still be the devil.

↳ The Wretch
A Grinch-inspired Song

Happy Halloween! :D I rushed and pulled an all nighter to create my first holiday-themed song. The image of a scraggly, lonely reaper comes to mind when I think of The Wretch. Who is this creature anyway? A candy thieving mongrel? Or perhaps a soft-hearted creature with a frightening face? Who knows.

The song itself starts out with a firm, almost angry resolve and transitions onto a more sad, nostalgic tone as “Halloween” eventually fades away into another day. I learned many things in the process of making The Wretch: adjusting the changing BPM / tempo, creating a compelling sound in the introduction, and arduously cultivating patience with my RAM-lacking and crash-loving computer.

When two different flavors join together, they mix into a whole new experience. What started as an experiment using the sounds of the “Light” and “Dark” Petals turned into something more. This is the world of “Side Story”… - The Professor

On April 8th, 2012, Marking Sounds released the first ever collaboration remix album. St. Michael’s Music Academy ~Side Story~. Based on the Sono Hanabira visual novel series, it covered a variety of electronic sounds. Recently, a new duo by the name of SoLi has recreated one of the remixes from Side Story.

Based on the first ending theme, “甘い花園 ~Light|Dark Petals~” takes a drastically different path from the original. It combines the dark electronic sounds with the vocals provided by the other half of SoLi, introducing you to the world of “Side Story”. The album version was a taste of that world, and now we are happy to provide fans with an extended version of it. We hope you enjoy the remix and look out for other SoLi songs in the future.

YAY! It’s out now! :D

Anyway, you’ve already said everything so I’ll just leave a more personal note to anyone who’s reading this. I recently got the chance to collaborate with fellow music producer, MarkingLifestyle, on a song called “Amai Hanazono.” (The vocals are at 3:25.) It’s… a pretty long and epic remix, but there’s a shorter four minute version (“Side Story” ver) available for your ears if you wish. Anyway, now we could give a pat on our backs for a good job done. :p

Pulse.

Played drums for the first time:

A pulse flows through my curved fingertips
While electrifying power fuels my wooden grip
The sounds strike, resonating the depth of its core
As a steady heartbeat stirs life across the floor—
My soul tremors, my feet shake to the movement,
Breathing in and out the rhythm of each moment
Sparks of energy flew, and this is how I knew
That I firmly held time within my palms—
And I carried it all along—

Thanks to Soully for introducing me to this game’s music.

Haha I’m glad the game has such awesome music (by Jim Guthrie) in the first place. I really like this one and the other ones I showed you. The game’s similarly nice, I think its narration really makes it stand out from other games. Just the way they word the adventure is really fun. :D

— Ch. 2: Storybook by Soulfully —

Walking around your whole life, got a story to tell
Before we say farewell
Follow along as you flip through the pages
Look at your imperfectly frayed edges
Take another look, you’re a storybook

Try to erase the doodled daydreams, fix your broken seams
You tear and pages are falling
But you know that there’s something you need
Yearning for The One to sit down and read
Take another look, you’re a storybook

Your life spent bound, but now you’re found
Choking dust surrounds, where even silence drowned
Your whole world has been monochrome
Only now you drip with color tones
Take another look, you’re a storybook
